This Act is the Oaths and Declarations (Endorsing the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. This Act amends the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957 (the ). The purpose of this Act is— to provide for any person taking a statutory oath, in addition to repeating the words of the oath, to elect to state that they will perform their duties in accordance with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi; and to specify the wording to be used by any person stating that they will perform their duties in accordance with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi when taking a statutory oath.
