This Act is the Radiation Safety Act . This Act, other than , comes into force on the date that is 1 year after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. comes into force on the day after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. The purposes of this Act are to— establish a framework to protect the health and safety of people and protect the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation while allowing for the safe and beneficial use of ionising radiation; and enable New Zealand to meet its international obligations relating to radiation protection, radiation safety and security, and nuclear non-proliferation, including (but not limited to) its obligations under— the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material done at New York and Vienna on
