This Act is the Local Government (Public Libraries) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. This Act amends the Local Government Act 2002 (the ). The purpose of this Act is to amend the Local Government Act 2002 to expand the public library services that local authorities are required to provide for free. Replace section 142 with: A local authority must provide for a library and library services for public use on the following minimum terms: the residents in the district or region of the local authority are entitled to join the library free of charge; and the library shall not charge any resident of the authority’s district or region for the use of library material, including books, non-print resources, and digital informat
