This Act is the Southland District Council (Stewart Island/Rakiura Visitor Levy) Empowering Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to provide the Council with the power to make bylaws enabling the setting and collection of levies in respect to any person travelling to, or from, Stewart Island/Rakiura. The purpose of this Act is to provide a mechanism for the Council to set and collect levies and obtain revenue from passengers travelling to Stewart Island/Rakiura, in order to better provide services, facilities, and amenities for those persons while they are on the Island.
