What the official record says
This Act is the Maritime Powers Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to— provide clear powers for the enforcement of New Zealand’s criminal law in international waters; and uphold New Zealand’s rights and obligations under international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea international human rights law.
