This Act is the Inspector-General of Defence Act . This Act comes into force— on a date set by Order in Council; or to the extent not brought into force earlier, . The purpose of this Act is to— provide the Minister with dedicated independent oversight of the New Zealand Defence Force; and to the House of Representatives for the activities of the Defence Force; and assure the public that the activities of the Defence Force are subject to independent scrutiny, including in relation to New Zealand’s obligations under international law.
