This Act is the Inspector-General of Defence Act . This Act comes into force— on a date set by Order in Council; or to the extent not brought into force earlier, . An Order in Council made under this section is secondary legislation ( of the for publication requirements). The purpose of this Act is to— provide the Minister with dedicated independent oversight of the New Zealand Defence Force; and to the House of Representatives for the activities of the Defence Force; and assure the public that the activities of the Defence Force are subject to independent scrutiny, including in relation to New Zealand’s obligations under international law. To fulfil that purpose, this Act— creates the offices of Inspector-General of Defence and Deputy Inspector-General of Defence; and confers functions on
