This Act is the Ngāti Mākino Claims Settlement Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to give effect to certain provisions of the deed of settlement, which is a deed to settle the historical claims of Ngāti Mākino. This Act binds the Crown. This section is a guide to the overall scheme and effect of this Act, but does not affect the interpretation or application of this Act or of the deed of settlement. This Part— sets out the purpose of this Act and specifies that it binds the Crown; and sets out the Crown's acknowledgements to Ngāti Mākino; and defines terms used in this Act, including key terms such as Ngāti Mākino and historical claims; and provides that the settlement of the historical claims is final
