This Act is the New Zealand Flag Referendums Act . This Act (except ) comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. If, in the second flag referendum, the alternative flag design gains a greater number of votes than the current New Zealand Flag, then commence on whichever of the following dates is earlier: a date set by the Governor-General by Order in Council: the day that is 6 months after the date on which the result of the second flag referendum is declared. If, in the second flag referendum, the current New Zealand Flag gains a greater number of votes than the alternative flag design, then do not commence.
