This Act is the Ngā Rohe Moana o Ngā Hapū o Ngāti Porou Act . This Act comes into force on a day to be appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council. The purpose of this Act is to contribute to the legal expression, protection, and recognition of— the continued exercise of mana by ngā hapū o Ngāti Porou in relation to ngā rohe moana o ngā hapū o Ngāti Porou; and the association of Ngāti Porou with ngā rohe moana o ngā hapū o Ngāti Porou in a manner consistent with section 3 of the Foreshore and Seabed Act 2004. To this end, this Act— gives effect to the deed of agreement between ngā hapū o Ngāti Porou and the Crown; and provides a comprehensive and final resolution of the territorial customary rights claims and the customary rights order claims of ngā hapū o Ngāti Porou.
