This Act is the Local Electoral (Māori Representation) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purposes of this Act are— to provide for the establishment of Māori wards by territorial authorities and of Māori constituencies by regional councils: to strengthen Māori representation on the Local Government Commission. This Act is to be read in conjunction with the Local Government Act 1974 and the Local Government Act 2002, and those Acts and any Regulations made under either of those Acts apply accordingly and with any necessary modifications. However, if there is any inconsistency between the provisions of this Act and any provisions in either of the Acts referred to in or any Regulations made under either of those Acts,
