This Act is the Ngati Tuwharetoa, Raukawa, and Te Arawa River Iwi Waikato River Act . come into force on the day after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. The rest of this Act comes into force on a date to be appointed by the Governor-General by an Order in Council made on the advice of the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations. The overarching purpose of this Act is to restore and protect the health and wellbeing of the Waikato River for present and future generations. This Act— recognises the significance of the Waikato River to Ngati Tuwharetoa, Raukawa, and Te Arawa River Iwi: recognises the vision and strategy for the Waikato River: establishes and grants functions and powers to the Waikato River Authority: establishes the Waikato River Clean-up Trust: acknowl
