This Act is the Standards and Accreditation Act . This Act comes into force on a date to be appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council; and 1 or more orders may be made bringing different provisions into force on different dates. The purpose of this Act is to continue the 2 Crown entities providing standards and accreditation to promote and maintain best practice in standards and conformity assessment that is consistent with international practice and facilitates trade. The Act also enables the incorporation by reference of New Zealand standards into regulations or bylaws. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— means a procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition that another body or person is competent to carry out specific tasks means certify
