This Act is the Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. This amends the Electricity Act 1992. The following Part is inserted after Part 6: The purpose of this Part is to reduce the impact of fossil-fuelled thermal electricity generation on climate change by creating a preference for renewable electricity generation through the implementation of a 10-year restriction on new baseload fossil-fuelled thermal electricity generation capacity, except where an exemption is appropriate (for example, to ensure security of supply). This Part expires on the close of the day that is 10 years after the date on which this Part comes into force. In this Part, unless the context otherwise requires,— means
