This Act is the Ngāti Hei Claims Settlement Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is— to record in English and te reo Māori the acknowledgements and apology given by the Crown to Ngāti Hei in the deed of settlement; and to give effect to certain provisions of the deed of settlement that settles the historical claims of Ngāti Hei. The provisions of this Act take effect on the settlement date unless stated otherwise. Before the date on which a provision takes effect, a person may prepare or sign a document or do anything else that is required for— the provision to have full effect on that date; or a power to be exercised under the provision on that date; or a duty to be performed under the provision on that da
