This Act is the Minimum Wage (Mitigation of Youth Unemployment) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force 30 days after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. This Act amends the Minimum Wage Act 1983. The purpose of this Act is to end minimum wage parity between youth (15–17 years old) and all other workers by enabling the Governor-General by Order in Council to set minimum wage rates defined by reference to the age of workers. Section 4 is repealed and the following section substituted: The Governor-General may, by Order in Council, prescribe the minimum rate of wages payable to either or both of the following: 1 or more classes of workers— defined in the order by reference to the age of the workers; and to whom does not apply: 1 or more classes of workers— defined in the order;
