This Act is the Water Services Act . This Act comes into force on the earlier of— a date appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council; and the date that is 2 years after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. One or more Orders in Council may be made under appointing different dates for different provisions. An Order in Council made under this section is secondary legislation ( Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019 for publication requirements). The main purpose of this Act is to ensure that drinking water suppliers provide safe drinking water to consumers by— providing a drinking water regulatory framework that is consistent with internationally accepted best practice, including a duty on drinking water suppliers to— have a drinking water safety plan; and comply with
