What the official record says
This Act is the Ngāti Manuhiri Claims Settlement Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to give effect to certain provisions of the deed of settlement that settles the historical claims of Ngāti Manuhiri. The provisions of this Act take effect on the settlement date unless a provision states otherwise. Before the date on which a provision takes effect, a person may prepare or sign a document or do anything else that is required— for the provision to have full effect on that date; or for a power to be exercised, or for a duty to be performed, under the provision on that date.
