This Act is the Regulatory Systems (Transport) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force on 1 April 2026. This Part amends the Government Roading Powers Act 1989. After section 61, insert: The Agency may— stop, divert, or otherwise control traffic on a State highway; or close a State highway (or any part of it) to traffic. The Agency may only exercise the power under if the Agency considers it appropriate to do so for the protection and safety of the public. The Agency must notify the New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and relevant ambulance services as soon as practicable of any action taken under . After section 82(1)(d), insert: a pedestrian on infrastructure that is— designed for pedestrian use; and located on the motorway. This Part amends the Land Transport Act 1998
