This Act is the Land Transfer Act . This Act comes into force on a date appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council. One or more orders may be made under bringing different provisions into force on different dates. Any provision that has not earlier been brought into force comes into force on the day that is months after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to replace the Land Transfer Act 1952 with a modern Act that— continues and maintains the Torrens system of land title in New Zealand; and retains the fundamental principles of that system, which are to— provide security of ownership of estates and interests in land: facilitate the transfer of and dealings with estates and interests in land: provide compensation for loss arising from
