This Act is the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Act . come into force on a date appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council. The rest of this Act comes into force on the day after the date on which this Act receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to implement in New Zealand law the Agreement between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Australia on Trans-Tasman Court Proceedings and Regulatory Enforcement done at Christchurch on 24 July 2008 (the ), the text of which is set out in . The objective of the Agreement, as expressed in Article 2 of the Agreement, is to— streamline the process for resolving civil proceedings with a trans-Tasman element in order to reduce costs and improve efficiency; and minimise existing impediments to enforcing certain judgments
