This Act is the Education (Restoration of Democracy to University Councils) Amendment Act . This Act comes into force 6 months after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. This Act amends the Education Act 1989 (the ). Replace sections 170A and 171 with: The council of an institution must consist of not fewer than 12 nor more than 20 members. Subject to , the council of an institution must include— 4 persons appointed by the Minister: 1 person employed by the institution who is appointed by the institution: at least 1, but not more than 3, permanent members of the academic staff of the institution elected by the permanent members of that staff: at least 1, but not more than 3, permanent members of the general staff of the institution elected by the permanent members of that staff:
