This Act is the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Act . This Act comes into force on . The purpose of this Act is to contribute to the restoration of the health and mauri of the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana by— establishing new marine reserves, seafloor protection areas, and high protection areas within the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana; and acknowledging customary rights within seafloor protection areas and high protection areas. This Act must be interpreted and administered so as to give effect to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi.
