This Act is the Mokomoko (Restoration of Character, Mana, and Reputation) Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is to give legal effect to the agreement between the Crown and te whānau a Mokomoko dated 28 September 2011 relating to statutory recognition of the free pardon dated 15 June 1992 granted to Mokomoko by the Governor-General in exercise of the Royal prerogative of mercy.
