This Act is the Ngāti Hāua Claims Settlement Act . This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent. The purpose of this Act is— to record the acknowledgements and apology given by the Crown to Ngāti Hāua in Te Pua o Te Riri Kore; and to give effect to certain provisions of Te Pua o Te Riri Kore that settles the historical claims of Ngāti Hāua. The provisions of this Act take effect on the settlement date unless stated otherwise. Before the date on which a provision takes effect, a person may prepare or sign a document or do anything else that is required for— the provision to have full effect on that date; or a power to be exercised under the provision on that date; or a duty to be performed under the provision on that date.
